The current implementation of the tahfiz curriculum, which emphasizes fluency in Quranic recitation, needs to be strengthened by incorporating aspects of understanding the meanings of verses, as well as improving the quality and methods of memorization to enhance the level of Quranic appreciation among students. A balanced approach that integrates recitation skills, comprehension of Quranic meanings, and the enhancement of memorization quality and techniques can encourage students to internalize the contents of the Qur’an more holistically. This study was conducted to identify the level of Quranic appreciation among students of the Tahfiz Model Ulul Albab (TMUA). A quantitative approach was employed, using a survey research design with a questionnaire as the main instrument. The questionnaire focused on items related to the quality and methods of memorization practiced by TMUA students. A total of 127 tahfiz students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Nilai were involved in this pilot study, which aimed to assess the reliability of the research instrument. Descriptive data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 31 to obtain frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations for each item. The reliability of the questionnaire was high, with a Cronbach’s Alpha value of 0.945, indicating that the instrument was consistent and reliable. The descriptive analysis revealed that the level of Quranic appreciation among TMUA students was high, with an overall mean score (M = 4.24) and standard deviation (SD = 0.39). This encompasses aspects such as emotional, spiritual, intentional (niyyah), etiquette (adab), religious practices, memorization strategies, the benefits of memorization, learning environment, and time management. However, several aspects—namely memorization timing, self-reinforcement, and the practice of revision (murajaah) during tahajjud prayer—were found to be at a moderate level, with mean values ranging from 3.22 to 3.48 and standard deviations between 1.13 and 1.30. Meanwhile, one aspect, namely the memorization environment, was at a low level, with a mean value of 2.58 and a standard deviation of 1.29. Therefore, students are expected to understand the Quranic verses as a guide for life that shapes personality, discipline, responsibility, and spiritual well-being, in line with the objectives of tahfiz education in Malaysia.
