The Level of Interest in Qiraat Studies among Diploma Students in Tahfiz al-Quran and al-Qiraat at Selangor Islamic University

The science of Qiraat is an important branch in Qur’anic studies that explains the diversity of mutawatir recitations. In the present day, it has also become a program of study or a subject offered in several higher education institutions in Malaysia. However, students’ level of interest in this field varies and may influence their mastery of it. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the level of students’ interest, particularly among those enrolled in Qiraat programs, and to identify the factors that influence such interest. To achieve these objectives, the study employed a quantitative approach using a survey design involving 30 respondents selected randomly. Based on the analyzed data, the findings indicate that the level of students’ interest is high. Factors such as lecturers, teaching methods, perceptions of the usefulness of Qiraat knowledge, and intrinsic motivation show a positive relationship with students’ interest. Meanwhile, educational background shows a significant difference, whereas gender does not demonstrate a notable difference. Overall, the findings suggest that the science of Qiraat remains relevant and well-received. However, improvements in pedagogical aspects and learning support should be given attention to further strengthen and sustain students’ interest.
